Three years after his last release, ambient sound artist Todd Stapleton re-emerges with That Which Everything Is, a spectacular new work of sonic exploration.
Recorded between 2020 and 2021, That Which Everything Is unfolds across three dynamic improvisations, totaling more than sixty minutes of immersive ambient soundscapes. Analog synthesizers, soft electronics, blissful drones, and delicate piano passages converge to create a palette that is at once richly textured, expansive, and remarkably dynamic.
Stapleton describes the three compositions as “three pieces of transcendence.” Throughout the suite, a playful tension between melody and dissonance reveals a distinctive and unapologetic tonality, weaving between loose structure and moments of chaotic beauty. Haunting, moody passages gradually give way to tranquil atmospherics and vast, textured spaces, allowing each piece to evolve organically and without restraint.
Clocking in at sixty-seven minutes, That Which Everything Is is a deeply immersive listening experience—stunningly vibrant yet extraordinarily deliberate. The result is a work that feels simultaneously otherworldly and contemplative, inviting the listener to surrender to its shifting textures, unexpected harmonies, and quietly transformative atmosphere.
